The Vent system

Ok, this one is a doozy-and maybe kind of gross. So here is the scoop. The person who put the heat system into our house was definitely not on their "A" game when they did it because the floor vents are in ALL the wrong places. We have moved one so far and have a few more to move. So...there is a floor vent in the bathroom in front of the toilet against the wall opposite the toilet. The person who thought of putting a vent in this particular place was an idiot, but that is beside the point. Over the weekend, I got up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. I swear all I did was pee, nothing more and nothing less. I flushed--and crawled back into bed. Nick gets up in the morning and goes into the bathroom--"oh no" I hear. The toilet had overflowed. Thankfully, all there was was pee water, not poo water...which would have been really gross.

Nick oh so nicely cleans up the mess. Phew, it was all over--or so we thought. So Tuesday night, Nick goes to take a shower and comes out--"it smells like pee in there" he says. So *sniff sniff* yep, smells like pee. So, like a good husband, he gets out the 409 and cleans like a fiend. Ah, problem solved--or so we thought.

I get home last night (Wednesday) and turn up the heat a little. I got into the bathroom to pee, *sniff sniff* woof, it smells REALLY strong of pee. Nick gets home, "Nick, the bathroom smells REALLY strong" to which he enters the bedroom, not even the bathroom. "Yeah, I can smell it to." We look around for a second--you can see where this is going right? It was no coincidence that it just so happened to get really strong smelling when the vent was turned on. You guessed it, the pee water went down the vent--and when the heat is turned on, it warms the pee water and blows it out into the room, GROSS!

So now, what are we to do, with our pee vent. Maybe time to replace it??? I am disgusted.

More Personal Blogging

I find that I have drawn a line with myself, perhaps sub-consiously, with regart to the personal nature of my blogging. I have, to a degree, kept all personal thoughts out of this blog. The surface reason for this would be the fact that it is posted to the internet, and how personal should one get on the internet, where anyone and everyone can read...my co-workers, employer, friends, family, and unknown parties. Here is the rub, if a blog is meant to be a personal reflection of me, a diary of sorts, should it not reflect my personal thoughts? Or should it act a more of a record alla "here is what we did today." This question remains a big question mark.

Nick and I had a big discussion about having children the other day. There is a part of me, whether it be discussions with my parents (we are getting older, the longer you wait, the older we will get) or friends I know with fertility issues, or many other factors, I have this deep down fear that when it is time, things won't happen...thus the desire to "get going." Nick is of the mindset "3-5 years," to which I oh so insensitively said "well you are not the one who has to carry the baby in 3-5 years." Oops, strike that comment, I have the most loving and supportive husband, I dont need to say things like that.

While part of me ponders the idea that we are 25 (almost) and 25 years old, which is young and perfect timing to get going, another part of me says "stop" true, you own a house, you are married, you both have good jobs...but enjoy that for a while. Oh dilemma. I have decided to give the children thing a rest for at least a year-maybe 2-maybe 5.

I wish there was a crystal ball that said, try now--or--it will never work--or--try in 3 years. My sister, 16 months my senior (26years old) has a 4 (almost 5) year old who was an oopsies, we are pregnant baby. With baby #2 (which she is allowing to remain in residence in her cozzy belly for the next day or so before she goes in to deliver) it took 1.5 years of active trying to get pregnant, which resulted in a misscariage, and now the baby who is about to make his grand debut. Same two people (herself and her husband), first time a charm, second time...a long wait. Where is my crystal ball that says, sure, wait until you are 30, you will be fine! Or the one that says, better act fast...or how about the one that says, start the paperwork now, it's going to be a process!

Shamrock 8k (that's 5 miles)

Click on the picture to see it better!
I ran in the Shamrock run this past Saturday. I have not been running at all really, except for the 4 days that I ran the other week. Without training, I entered into the Shamrock run. There is a 5k, 8k and 15k. I did the 8 k which translates to 5 miles. Although my time was not that great, I ran the whole thing, finished, and managed to do all that with little to no training. :) Maybe I can actually put some training behind the next one and improve my time! Here is the snapshot of my race time and comparison to others in my league.

About us

If you know us, this part may be a little boring, however, I am going to operate under the assumption that you do no know us, feel free to skip if this bores you.

I started this blog when I realized that between living away from the town I grew up in and trying to remember what I did during the last year, blogging would possibly be a great way to keep myself and other updated. There was a part of me that doubted I would actually stick to the blogging thing, but surprisingly, I am still at it, albeit some boring posts.

Nick and I grew up in different towns. Nick lived in Ontario, Oregon until the summer between his 7th and 8th grade year when his parents decided to move across the state to Eugene (fortunately for me).

I grew up in Eugene, and did not move across the state, just across town. I grew up with 1 older sister, 1 younger brother, and 1 younger sister.

Nick and I first met in 8th grade, however, it was not until we were Freshman in High School and had International High School Classes together that I really began to notice him. Nick played football, I played volleyball. I had the misfortune of having shoulder issues, which brought me to the trainers room daily before practice to ice. Nick had the misfortune of tearing his ACL, causing him to have to spend time in the trainers office. It was there, that I developed a crush, a crush that would never quite resolve itself, but would also keep itself hidden until Junior year in College (September 2003).

While I quietly had my crush on Nick, we each persued other parts of life. I spent my Junior year in high school abroad, Nick spent his with another knee injury, but as an all star football player too. We both graduated from high school and enrolled in the University of Oregon, having lost touch back in High School.

During Fall term 2003, I began to work out at the Student Recreation Center at the U of Oregon, and to my surprise, found that Nick worked there. There was less working out, and more talking during that term. Nick envited me to a Sheldon High School Football game, which I went to and scored a hot chocolate. I scored more than that on that night. I finally, after 7 years of having a crush on this very hadsome man, told him.

Nick moved to Corvallis to go to Oregon State University for Construction Engineering Management. I continued at the University of Oregon, spending a term in Italy. After graduation, I moved to Corvallis to be closer to Nick.

Eventually, we moved to Portland once he graduated (2006) and he became a project manager at Kerr Contractors, I worked at Portland State University and began working towards my accounting degree. In January 2007, I got the opportunity to work at AKT, LLP as an itern while I finished school.

In July 2007, I accepted a full time position with AKT. In December 2007, we were married. February 2008, we purchased our first home together. Now, we live happily together in our new home, enjoying every moment of married life, friends, our home, and all of life's surprises.

First Night Alone

Tonight will mark the first night I sleep alone in the new house. For Nick's benefit, I should mention that he has already spent a night alone because I spent Saturday night down in Eugene at my parents because of Ali's baby shower, which was very nice, by the way.

I was up at *gasp* the unbearable before 5am hours. Yes, and on the very day that followed "Spring Forward." The alarm went off, and Nick, as always, sprang out of bed...I rolled over and probably grumbled something that was total jibberish to Nick. And yes, as always happens when I have a reason to be up early, Nick had to remind me various times that I should get out of bed. Oh how easy it becomes to reduce the amount of time you believe you need to get ready when you don't want to get up. The energy I use counting minutes...hm, it should take me .5 minutes to select clothing, 1 minute to brush my hair and deoderize myself...yes, I should be able to get ready in 3 minutes, 5 tops. Ha ha, only a comfortably sleeping Kenzie has the ability to convince herself that she is this quick in the morning.

Anyway, I dragged myself out of bed way too early, drove Nick and George to the airport, and they took off to ConExpo in Las Vegas. Which brings us back to the beginning of the post. Yes, I will be alone in the house for 4 nights. I will survive.

It's such a bummer how baby fever hits, to switch topics on you, sorry. Ali is about to deliver. I, as you all know, have just gotten married. And yes, like other women in my position, I have started to get that itch, much to the chagrin of my husband. I find myself mentioning it more and more. I am sure that Nick has noticed, sorry sweetheart. I found myself mentioning to him the other night, "guess what, if we got pregnant now, I would be due in December, thus completely allowing me to take all of busy season off next year..." Nick's response was "yeah, that would be nice" which he meant as kind of a ha ha type thing, and I took as, lets get to work! Ugh. I really thought that waiting for a few years was what I wanted to do...but that was then. The big problem is, I have been hearing about people and their fertility problems more and more, from blogs, personal conversations, etc. I get worried that if we wait and that happens to us. I know, probably unfounded, but you never know. I guess this is me venting. You know, this may be the most personal I have gotten on my blog. Hm.

Busy and Bad at Blogging (Sorry)

I really love this blogging thing, however, I have been a terrible "blogger" over the past few weeks due to a number of factors:

  1. Internet is spotty at best in our new home. I have yet to find an internet provider that I would like to go with.
  2. I am so busy with work!
  3. Doing the remodel thing takes quite a bit of time, so blogging ends up low on the list of things to do.

For the past week, I have been working at a Client nearby to my house which has been absolutely great for the following reasons:

  1. I get home before the sun goes down.
  2. I have gone running 3 whole days in a row. I forgot how much I adore running. I get home, put on my running clothes, put on a good CD, and run the neigborhood. I adore where we live because it is like a neigborhood, but we all have ample land and there are horses, dogs, and other animals! If I run "the loop" 1x, it is 1.7 miles.
  3. I get to cook dinner.
  4. I have time to do some house stuff, like tape the trim in the office.

In other news, my little sister is thinking about living with us over the summer and I am so excited! I just adore spending time with her. Like my family and husband, she "gets" me and we have a way of interacting unlike anything I can share with my normal, everyday people interections. We can communicate entirely in cartoon sound effects and "totaly get" what the other one is trying to say. Nick and I do this too. I adore it!

Anyway, so sorry, lots to do, so little time! TTFN, ta ta for now!
